Pakistan takes defense attaches to Line of Control

Defense attaches from the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Turkey and Indonesia visited the Line of Control (LoC) in Rawalakot sector of Jammu and Kashmir after days Indian shelling into Pakistan-controlled part of the disputed territory.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army’s media wing, the attaches received a briefing on atrocities committed by Indian forces along the Line of Control, including deliberate targeting of civilians.

The attaches interacted with the victims of ceasefire violations and learnt firsthand about their suffering.

Pakistan Army also apprised the visitors of efforts to provide relief to the population of Pakistan-administered area, known as Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

India and Pakistan have accused each other of shelling from across the Line of Control despite a longstanding ceasefire agreement. On Friday Indian firing killed 19-year-old Inzamam Ameen.

During the week, as shelling and South Asian tensions soard, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh twice in two days to condemn yet another killing, this time of a laborer, during unprovoked firing by Indian troops along the LoC.

Within first two months of 2018 Indian forces have carried out more than 391 ceasefire violations along the LoC and the Working Boundary, resulting in the killing of 16 civilians and causing injuries to 65 others, Pakistan army said in a statement.
