A Mexican Navy’s training ship collided with New York’s Brooklyn Bridge Saturday evening, killing two sailors and injuring several others.
Officials said the ship collision could have been the result of power failure and the ship did not function normally as it approached the New York side of the bridge. The top masts of the ship crashed against the underside of the bridge.
New York City mayor Eric Adams said the bridge was not damaged as a result of the collision and was open to public.
“Following our preliminary inspection, we can confirm that the bridge sustained no damage and is now open to the public,” he wrote in a post on X platform.

“The Mexican Navy tall ship Cuauhtémoc lost power and crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge,” he wrote in a separate post..
There were 277 people on board the ship at the time of collision out of which 19 sustained injuries.
The mayor confirmed that two passed away from their injuries, while two others remained in critical condition.
The ship is used for training and goodwill visits.
