Summer events to mark 50 years of catchy tourism slogan ‘Virginia is for Lovers’

This year marks 50 years of the tourism logo ‘Virginia is For Lovers,’ and Virginians are planning to be out to celebrate the occasion with a series of events.

The logo has become one of the most beloved and well-known slogans in the world, says Virginia Tourism Corporation.

“While it has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people, one thing hasn’t changed – the LOVE,” the VTC says on its website.

Companies from around the state will partner with VTC  to celebrate 50 years.

According to CBS19 News Rita McClenny, CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation, says the celebrations provide an “engaging opportunity for destinations across the state to showcase what made a vacation in Virginia so special and helps to show travelers why Virginia is for Lovers still rings true 50 years later.”

The VTC is inviting participation that will developing local activations – events, programs, special offerings – that will last 50 days.

Virginia Tourism Corporation will be leading an activation during the summer of 2019.

“Our goal is to celebrate 50 Years of Love in 2019 by having promotions that last for 50 days with a 50 Years of Love presence at wineries, breweries, festivals, hotels, restaurants, small businesses, etc. across the state.”
