17-year-old Maame Biney is the newest U.S. speedskating sensation

Virginia athlete is the first black woman to be on U.S. speedskating Olympic team

America has found its newest star athlete – 17-year-old Maame Biney – whose electrifying speedskating at Utah Olympic Oval on Saturday won her a spot in the U.S. team for 2018 Winter Olympics.

Her scintillating runs in 500-meter U.S. Olympic Trials left a cheering crowd in awe of her speed, confidence and agility.

The 2018 Winter Olympics,will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea from from February 9 to 25.

Maame was born in Ghana and moved to the United States as a five-year-old child, and started learning skating in Reston, Virginia.

On Saturday, while Mamme set the Utah Oval ablaze with her lightning performance, her father Kweku was among her biggest and most enthusiastic supporters.
