Priyanka Chopra, recently listed among 100 most influential persons by Time magazine, has strongly opposed Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump’s proposal to enforce a total ban on Muslims entering the United States.
“I just think you can’t put a ban on anyone. Generalizing a type of people is really primitive,” the Bollywood film star remarked.
In separate interviews with MSNBC and The New York Times Trump has indicated that materialize the ban on Muslim immigration into the United States, as proposed by him in December 2015 following terrorist bombings in Europe.
Trump is the only GOP candidate in nomination bid, as his main Party rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich have dropped out of the race.
The billionaire businessman touched off a storm of national and international criticism with his plans including building a wall along US border with Mexico. The Obama Administration and several Republican and Democratic leaders including frontrunner Hillary Clinton have rejected the ban plan as exclusivist and un-American.
But Priyanka, speaking in New York last week, said the fight against terrorism has grown “so complex that you can’t put a face on it any more”.
Popular across continents for her elegant looks and acting talent, Priyanka Chopra is among a galaxy of figures including Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg that featured on the Time’s list of powerful persons. She has also starred in American TV series Quantico.
