Each time, she splashed into a Rio Olympic swimming pool, 19-year-old Katie Ledecky made it abundantly clear that her best was yet to be.
Such was the touch Ledecky displayed, proving once again why she is a nine-time world champion.
Her latest victory came on Friday, when Washington area swimmer created another world record in the 800-meter freestyle by touching the victory mark in 8 minutes 4.79 seconds.
And that was not all, as Ledecky was 11 seconds ahead of second-place Jazz Carlin of Britain.
“I was pretty sure,” she later said, when asked if she was confident of having broken the record.
The Stanford University student has won four gold medals with a marvelous feat. Event that is not all.
Ledecky is the first woman to win the 200, 400 and 800 freestyles in 48 years.
She is also the third American woman in history to win four golds in a single Olympics gala.
The youngest member of the American swimming team, also won gold in the 800-meter freestyle relay and silver in the 400-meter freestyle relay.
The five-time Olympic gold medalist now holds world records in the 400-, 800-, and 1,500-meter freestyle and the quickest times in the 500-, 800-, 1000-, and 1,650-yard freestyle events.
