Pakistani-American first Muslim to be part of NYPD’s elite unit

The unit tasked with protecting NYC comprises highly trained personnel

Sergeant Ali Javed, a Pakistani-American has become the first Muslim to join the New York City Police Department’s elite Emergency Services Unit.

Javed is not only the first Muslim but also the first Pakistani to be became a member of the elite force, NYPD Muslim Officers Society ─ an organization representing Muslim American Law Enforcement Members ─ said on social media platforms including Facebook and the Twitter.

“Sergeant Ali Javed making history by becoming the first Muslim American, first Pakistani American to join the elite NYPD ESU protecting NYC, USA,” according to a tweet.

The unit performs tactical and technical rescue duty for other department elements. Members of ESU are cross-trained in multiple disciplines for police and rescue work.
