WMO photo picks capture Nature’s gifts amid climate change concerns

A reminder on preservation of Nature's bounties and climate

We may forget what Nature has given us but it’s always there for us to see, discover and celebrate, more so in the times of threatening environmental changes.

The World Meteorological Organization last month announced winners of a photo contest and the array of photos that make it to WMO 2019 Calendar.

The photos primarily capture weather patterns, a variety of them in a variety of climates – refreshing our sense of appreciation for Nature’s own art, painting, colors, diversity, power and music.

Some of the photos are not just awesome but also breathtaking – reminding everyone of the duty we owe to protect the climate against horrible changes and let Nature’s bounties continue to bring joy to the planet and its people.

The organization received 1 000 submissions from around the world and a panel of judges, made up of meteorological experts and professional photographers, selected the 13 photos for the calendar.

“The judging panel had to consider many factors including technical quality, geographical balance and relevance to the theme, The Sun, the Earth, the Weather,” the organization said.

The weather organization will display many other photographs WMO social media channels, the website, in outreach activities and in displays at WMO’s headquarters in Geneva.
