New York pays tribute to health care workers amid fight against coronavirus

Political leaders and near and dear ones of COVID-19 survivors are not the only people who express a profound sense of gratitude to health care workers risking their own lives to save affected.

In New York City, residents of the city join together each evening to pay tribute to the workers on the front line of the Big Apple’s fight against coronavirus pandemic.

At 7:00 pm citizens open their windows to salute the workers, sending out their appreciation with sounds of clapping and horns.Firefighters have long been a sight in the city cheering the healthcare workers.

Recently, New York city’s iconic Empire State lit up in red to salute the medical workers at several hospitals and makeshift facilities in parks of the city. The featured image above was captured by the United Nations, which is headquartered in the city.  The UN published several photos paying tribute to first responders in the trying times.

 

 

 

 

According to government data, New York City has lost more than 12,000 people to COVID-19 outbreak after inclusion of more than 4000 victims, whose deaths were previously not attributed to coronavirus infection.

Governor Cuomo has extended the stay at home order to May 15, and New Yorkers are now required to wear masks at public places.

In the five boroughs, the death toll increased to 12,712 while the total infection cases are 126,368.

Queens has 38,733 COVID-19 cases, Brooklyn 33,729, The Bronx 28,016, Manhattan 16,404 and Staten Island 9,414.
