Indian court hands Khan five years in prison

Fans of Salman Khan have expressed shock at a court’s harsh sentencing of the Bollywood superstar on charges of poaching of a rare deer species while acquitting all others named in the case.

The social media erupted with reactions in support of the Khan at the news that a court in western Indian city of Jodhpur has handed Khan a five years imprisonment in a two-decade old case.

Khan, a heartthrob for millions of fans around the world, has recently been the second highest earning Bollywood actor after Sharukh Khan.

The 52-year-old actor has denied shooting two blackbuck deer in the preserve of Bishnoi while shooting a film, Hum Saath Saath Hain’ in 1998.

According to Indian media, the film actor plans to appeal the conviction in a higher court.

Four other stars facing poaching accusations alongside Khan – Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam – were acquitted.

Reports say they were n the jeep that Khan was believed to be driving during the hunt.
